Not to toot my own horn and while the DEBUGmmbackup=2 method definitely does work, you might want to vote for this RFE I put in a month ago to get a more robust "dry run" mode with mmbackup, since guessing how include/exclude rules get translated from SP/dsmc to SS/mmbackup can be
challenging:
