Hi Jurgen,

You can cut it even further :-) to get only serial number.

dmidecode -s system-serial-number

You can cut the amount of information down by specifying the type of 
information you want, so usually

dmidecode -t system

will display the information with the serial number of the machine. This 
is my preferred choice as it is usually installed by default.
