Jon,

 Again I encourage you to read at least the first paragraph of 
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trim_(computing) which explains that the 
TRIM command can improve performance and lessen "wear" of SSD storage 
devices.  This is a somewhat different concept than older school 
"thin-provisioning".
