<html><body><p><font size="2">Hi Michael,</font><br><br><font size="2">It's been a while, but I've run into similar issues with Scale on Windows. One possible issue is the GPFS administrative account configuration using the following steps:</font><br><font size="2">----</font><p><font size="2">1. Create a domain user with the logon name </font><i><font size="2">root</font></i><font size="2">.</font><p><font size="2">2. Add user root to the Domain Admins group or to the local Administrators group on each Windows node.</font><p><font size="2">3. In root Properties/Profile/Home/LocalPath, define a HOME directory such as C:\Users\root\home that does not include spaces in the path name and </font><font size="2" color="#C20000">i</font><b><font size="2" color="#C20000">s not the same as the profile path</font></b><b><font size="2">.</font></b><p><font size="2">4. Give root the right to log on as a service as described in “Allowing the GPFS administrative account to run as a service.”</font><p><font size="2">Step 3 </font><b><font size="2" color="#C20000">including consistent use of the HOME directory you define, </font></b><font size="2">is required for the Cygwin environment </font><p><font size="2">----</font><p><font size="2">I have botched step 3 before with the result being very similar to your experience. Carefule re-configuration of the cygwin root *home* directory fixed some of the problems.</font><p><font size="2">Hope this helps.</font><p><p><font size="2">Another tangle you may run into is disabling IPv6. I had to completely disable IPv6 on the Windows client by not only deselecting it on the network interface properties list, but also disabling it system-wide. The symptoms vary, but utilities like mmaddnode or mmchnode may fail due to invalid interface. Check the output of <br>/usr/lpp/mmfs/bin/mmcmi host <yourhostnamehere> <br>to be sure it's the host that Scale expects. (In my case, it returned </font> ::1<font size="2"> until I completely disabled IPv6).</font><p><p><font size="2">My notes follow:</font><br><a href="http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929852"><u><font color="#0000FF">This KB article</font></u></a> tells us about a setting that affects what Windows prefers, emphasized in bold:
<ul><ul><ul><ol type="1"><li>In Registry Editor, locate and then click the following registry subkey:</ol>
<ul><tt>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters<br></tt></ul>
<ol type="1"><li>Double-click DisabledComponents to modify the DisabledComponents entry.</ol>
<ul>Note: If the DisabledComponents entry is unavailable, you must create it. To do this, follow these steps:
<ul><ol type="1"><li>In the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
<li>Type DisabledComponents, and then press ENTER.
<li>Double-click DisabledComponents.</ol></ul></ul>
<ol type="1"><li>Type any one of the following values in the Value data: field to configure the IPv6 protocol to the desired state, and then click OK:
<ul><ul type="disc"><li>Type <tt>0</tt> to enable all IPv6 components. (Windows default setting)
<li>Type <tt>0xffffffff</tt> to disable all IPv6 components, except the IPv6 loopback interface. This value also configures Windows to prefer using Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) over IPv6 by modifying entries in the prefix policy table. For more information, see Source and Destination Address Selection.
<li><b>Type </b><tt><b>0x20</b></tt><b> to prefer IPv4 over IPv6 by modifying entries in the prefix policy table.</b>
<li>Type <tt>0x10</tt> to disable IPv6 on all nontunnel interfaces (on both LAN and Point-to-Point Protocol [PPP] interfaces).
<li>Type <tt>0x01</tt> to disable IPv6 on all tunnel interfaces. These include Intra-Site Automatic Tunnel Addressing Protocol (ISATAP), 6to4, and Teredo.
<li>Type <tt>0x11</tt> to disable all IPv6 interfaces except for the IPv6 loopback interface.</ul></ul>
